A mom is being ridiculed for her decision to surprise her son at college while he was out with his friends.
Self-proclaimed ‘boy mom’ Jessica Tapscott often posts videos of life alongside her husband and three sons – but the internet is up in arms over her latest clip.
In the upload, which was posted to TikTok, Jessica flaunted her latest stunt, claiming to have gone to a bar near her son’s college to surprise him.
‘The one time I showed up at the club to surprise my son at college,’ she wrote on the video.
In the clip, which has been viewed over 3.4 million times, the mom shows a compilation of herself grinning next to her son while out at a dark night club.
In one shot, she beams towards the camera with a drink in hand before it pans over to her son who is sitting down with his hood up over his face and looking at his phone.
He then looks up exasperatedly from his phone before Jessica pans back over to herself and grins.
Other shots included her taking videos while her son danced with his friends, and her ordering a drink while he shook his head next to her.

While some viewers questioned the authenticity of the clip, the majority seemed to think it was legitimate – even if they were exaggerating slightly for camera.
‘Boy moms are so scary I swear to god,’ declared one user.
‘As a mom of 17- and 10-year-old boys, may this level of obsession never find me,’ wrote another.
‘The secondhand embarrassment I feel for him,’ groaned another.
‘He can pretend all he wants but deep down he loves it!’ one person gushed.
‘Mama just showing these young bucks how to have a good time,’ cheered another.
‘Everyone in the comments is so wild. It’s so clearly a joke and he’s SO clearly in on it,’ argued another. ‘He’s even in the comments joking around. Y’all HATE to see a mom and son who actually enjoy each others company it’s crazy.’
While the term ‘boy mom’ seems innocent enough, some influencers have taken it to mean more than just referring to a mom raising sons – with experts warning it could lead to a toxic family dynamic.

In some ‘boy mom’ videos online, some women describe raising a son as enduring the longest break-up of your life, with others criticizing their son’s future spouse for everything from cooking to cleaning.
Last year, creator Mellissa went viral after sharing she regularly has ‘date nights’ with her 12-year-old son to teach him how to treat women.
‘GRWM (Get ready with me) for a date with my boy,’ Melissa captioned her video that she posted on Instagram.
‘Basically you give them an allowance ($50) and they take you out on a date,’ she explained.
‘The idea is you are prepping them for how to take a girl out on a date in the future so they aren’t completely lost when the time comes,’ she continued.
‘So you help them along the way with how to plan and execute a date and you teach them basic etiquette and manners.’
She added: ‘It’s really nice because we get to spend thoughtful, intentional time together – but the catch is that I make him plan it.’
While some users thought it was charming, others suggested it could raise issues in the future when the son attempts to form his own relationships, and create unnecessary issues for all parties later in life.
