Besiktas manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to reunite with a familiar face from his Manchester United days. The Norwegian coach, who was appointed Besiktas boss in January, is reportedly bringing former United match analyst Tom Green to Istanbul.
According to Turkish reporter Sercan Dikme, Green will be leaving Old Trafford to join Solskjaer’s staff in Turkey. Dikme confirmed the move, saying on X, “Manchester United match analyst Tom Green has been added to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff. Tom Green is coming to Istanbul today.”
It is believed that Tom Green flew to Istanbul on Tuesday to complete his switch after spending eight years at Manchester United. The analyst reportedly arrived at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho’s management. He worked closely with the Portuguese tactician before the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag.
Green had worked for several English football clubs including Stoke City, Derby County and Burton Albion ahead of his time at Manchester United. He has now become one of the latest staff members to leave Old Trafford since Ruben Amorim took over as coach in November.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed Manchester United coach back in March 2019. The Norwegian’s managerial role at Besiktas is his first since leaving Old Trafford three years ago. He signed an 18-month deal with an option for the 2026-27 season.
During his unveiling in Istanbul, Solskjaer showcased his determination to lay an improved foundation that would help the club to return to its glory days.
“We had great meetings with our president. We met heart to heart. The bonds we will establish in this team are very important,” Solskjaer said, as per Express.
“We will create a new foundation here. This was something I wanted very much. Our president touched my heart and the hearts of the technical staff,” he added.
Besiktas last lifted the Turkish title in 2021, which was their 16th league crown. Since then, they have slumped to sixth twice on either side of a third-place finish. They are currently seventh in the Super Lig after 20 matches. Besiktas will next face Sivasspor on Saturday, February 8, at the New Sivas 4 Eylul Stadium.
