Playing in Delhi, Team India came up with a superb all-round show to claim a win against the Proteas in the fourth Test of the series.

India clinched an emphatic Test win against South Africa by a margin of 337 runs, on this day (December 7) in 2015. Back then it was India’s biggest margin of victory, in terms of runs, in Test history. It had also marked the second-biggest Test defeat for South Africa in terms of runs at that point in time.

Playing in Delhi, Team India came up with a superb all-round show to claim a win against the Proteas in the fourth Test of the series. Chasing a target of 481, the visitors could manage to reach 143 in the second innings. Winning the toss, the-then India skipper Virat Kohli decided to bat first. The move did pay off with the hosts putting up a solid total of 334 in the first innings. Ajinkya Rahane came up with a brilliant century to earn an upper hand for India.

Rahane played a memorable knock of 127 off 215 balls. His sublime innings comprised 11 boundaries and four sixes.

Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped in with a valuable contribution of 56 runs. For South Africa, Kyle Abbott registered a five-wicket haul. Dane Piedt supported Abbott ably having claimed four dismissals in the first innings.

South Africa, in response, did not have an impressive outing. Facing a formidable Indian bowling line-up, the Proteas could manage to reach 121 in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket haul helped India gain an advantage in the fourth Test. AB de Villiers was South Africa’s highest scorer (42) in the first innings.

Ajinkya Rahane continued his brilliance with the bat in the second innings as well and scored another fabulous century. Virat Kohli also led from the front as he produced a vital knock of 88 in the second innings. Riding on Kohli and Rahane’s sublime batting, the hosts reached 267 at the loss of five wickets and decided to declare their innings.

With a mammoth target of 481 to chase down, South Africa did not enjoy a fruitful start to their second innings. South Africa lost their two opening batters – Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma – putting up 49 runs on the board. South Africa failed to recover from the early scare as they were bowled out for a meagre total of 143.

Ravichandran Ashwin excelled with the ball having claimed a five-wicket haul in the second innings. Umesh Yadav also contributed significantly having picked up three wickets.
