Nagaur district of Rajasthan is renowned for its temples and agricultural heritage. Here lies the village of Deh, where amidst the numerous temples dedicated to Rajasthan’s folk deities, stands the revered temple of Kunjal Mata, an incarnation of Shakti. This unique temple attracts devotees from across Rajasthan and beyond who seek the blessings of the miraculous deity. Situated 21km from Nagaur on the Nagaur-Ladnu-Sujangarh road, the Kunjal Mata Temple remains a beacon of faith and devotion.

The Legend Of ‘Kunjal Mata’

Mulaaram Fardauda, president of Kunjal Yuva Mandal Seva Samiti, shared with Local18 the legend of Kunjal Mata.

In ancient times, Deh Village was known as Champavat Nagari, where Kunjal Mata resided with her family. As per the lore, on the day of her wedding, two marriage processions arrived simultaneously to claim her hand. To avert potential bloodshed, the Goddess chose to disappear into the earth. Her brother, attempting to restrain her, grasped at her dupatta, but only the edge of her veil remained in his hand. Her selfless act aimed to prevent conflict between the two families. Since then, Kunjal Mata has been venerated in the region, with worship commencing from Samvat 1089.

Maharaj’s Penance And Temple Construction

Mulaaram Fardauda further revealed that, initially, only a platform marked the site of the Goddess’s statue. It was here that Chuna Nath Ji Maharaj undertook rigorous penance.

Subsequently, Bhanwarlal Purohit of Lambia experienced a divine dream, inspiring him to construct the temple. Today, the temple complex spans 33 bighas of land, encompassing a magnificent dharamshala with 50 rooms, a vast pavilion accommodating 2,000 people for jagrans, a Shiva temple, serene greenery, a grand hall, and an ongoing construction of a Yagya Shala.

‘Kuldevi’ For Many

The Kunjal Mata Temple holds immense sanctity. The temple priest informed Local18 that Kunjal Mata is revered as the Kuldevi (family deity) of several communities, including Pareek, Joshi, Lapasyas, Budhaniyo, and more.

The temple witnesses grand celebrations during Navratri, with people organising dandiya on Dussehra.
