With Indian armed forces successfully carrying out strikes in Pakistan and PoK as part of Operation Sindoor, questions are being asked whether the rising tensions between the two countries will impact the high-profile Indian Premier League that has entered its business end. The Indian armed forces destroyed nine terror targets in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack last month that resulted in the death of 26 civilians.
According to news agency ANI, the IPL, as of now, will go on as per the original schedule with the current circumstances having no impact on the T20 competition that sees participation from both Indian and overseas cricketers.
Several airports in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, Rajkot and Bhuj have been shut down till May 10 following India’s response to Pahalgam terror attack.
While the schedule remains unaffected, another report claims that the travel plans of IPL franchises might take a hit that are in Dharamsala.
Dharamsala airport has also been shut.
Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are already in Dharamsala as the two sides are set to clash on Thursday (May 8).
Mumbai Indians are scheduled to face PBKS on May 11 at the venue and may have to alter their travel plans. However, no directive has been issued by the government so far.
According to Timesofindia.com, a senior BCCI official says call will be taken according to the government advisory.
“We will have to wait and watch for now. There is no option because even Chandigarh airport is shut so we need to see what can be done. Two teams are already here and MI were supposed to arrive later this week for their match on May 11. The nearest option is the Delhi airport but that would mean a long road journey for the teams. We are tracking government advisories and will take the call as necessary,” the official was quoted as saying by the publication.
