Padres-Dodgers playoff game delayed after fan throws a baseball towards San Diego star Jurickson Profar

The Sunday night showdown between the Padres and the Dodgers was briefly halted after baseballs and objects were reportedly thrown from the crowd towards San Diego stars Jurickson Profar and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Outfielder Profar had taunted Los Angeles fans earlier in the night after diving into the crowd to take a spectacular catch – denying Mookie Betts a home run.

But at the bottom of the seventh in the Padres’ 10-2 win, tempers began to fray at Dodger Stadium. A furious Profar could be seen berating supporters before a ball – hurled from the stand –  landed near the 31-year-old.

Officials then intervened as the Padres star continued his angry outburst. Teammates and umpires surrounded Profar in an attempt to calm him down.

As Padres players gathered to support Profar, a message went out over the stadium speaker: ‘We ask that you do not throw objects on to the field.’

That prompted boos around Dodger Stadium. The game was then delayed as security officials and umpires swarmed the field in Los Angeles.

Reports also claimed that other objects were thrown from the crowd, with Padres star Tatis Jr said to have been targeted by bottles in right field.

Fan footage, posted to social media, appeared to show Tatis Jr taunting fans in the crowd before he was led away by members of stadium security. The San Diego star had the last laugh, however, hitting a home run at the top of the ninth.

The Padres led 4-1 at the time of the stoppage before they added three more runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. San Diego went on to win 10-2 to tie the NLDS at one game apiece.

Earlier in the night, Jack Flaherty and Manny Machado were seen trading barbs, while Profar and Will Smith had words at home plate, too.

Profar also trolled Betts and Dodgers supporters with a stunning catch. He leapt into the crowd to snag the ball among a sea of hands. But the Padres star’s reaction confused everyone – including Betts.

Rather than celebrate, Profar bounced up and down, staring at Dodgers fans in the stands. Betts was celebrating and reportedly halfway to third base before it became clear that Profar had made the catch.

‘That was one of my wishes, all the time: I want to rob a homer,’ he later said. ‘And I did it in a playoff game. So it was awesome.’

On Saturday night, a vicious brawl reportedly broke out in the stands as the Dodgers fought back to seal a 7-5 win.

Tensions ran high on the field in the playoff thriller but the atmosphere also turned nasty among supporters.

A huge fight reportedly broke out, according to fans on social media, who claimed the incident occurred in the row in front of him.

Two Padres fans allegedly punched a Dodgers supporter, knocking him out and leaving blood splattered across the floor.

It was claimed that the blooded LA fan had to be helped out, while the Padres supporters were said to have been ejected.

Photos, shared to social media, showed splotches of blood across one of the seats and the ground.

On the field in Saturday’s opener, Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run home run in his first-ever playoff game.

Five Dodgers relievers, meanwhile, held the Padres scoreless over the final six innings as Los Angeles ended a six-game postseason losing streak.
