Paralympics 2024 Concludes in Grand Fashion at Stade de France as Paris Handover Reins to Los Angeles

The curtains dropped on the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Sunday as the 17th edition of the sporting extravaganza concluded in grand style at the Stade de France with the French Capital city completing the handover of the games to Los Angeles, the host of the 2028 edition of the Paralympics.

The closing night of the quadrennial spectacle was off in incredible fashion as an AV highlighting the highs and lows of the 11-day event set the tone for the evening before French singer Santa delighted the crowd with her music stylings. Her rendition of the Vivre pour le Meilleur kicked off the celebrations before the crowd got to its feet for the French national anthem.

French President Emanuel Macron and International Paralympic Committee chief Andrew Parsons lapped up the applause from the crowd before the flagbearers of the nations rallied around the Stade de France to a raucous ovation.

The Indian contingent, which made history with their highest-ever tally of 29 medals was represented by archer Harvinder Singh and sprinter Preeti Pal, who served as the nation’s flagbearers at the closing ceremony.

Head of the Paris 2024 organising committee Tony Estanguet delivered an impassioned speech thanking everyone involved in the successful organisation of the multi-sport spectacle across various venues of the City of Light.

Parsons delivered a vote of thanks extending his gratitude to the fans, athletes, organisers and volunteers, who made the Parisian event a memorable spectacle for more reasons than one. He declared the games closed.

Parsons, Estanguet, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and LA Mayor Karen Bass took centre stage as the Paralympics flag was handed over to Los Angeles as we cut an AV featuring American Paralympians Samantha Bosco, Ezra French and Jamal Hill, set in the backdrop of the American venue set to host the upcoming edition of the Games.

The Paralympic flame was extinguished in ceremonial fashion before Paris burst into a party as Jean-Michel Jarre took over the stereo systems to the delight of the French crowd.
