Parineeti Chopra Shares Why Coffee Isn’t The Best Breakfast: 7 Ways It Affects Your Body In The AM

Starting your day with coffee can lead to blood sugar fluctuations and stomach irritation.

Parineeti Chopra shared a post which talked about why coffee should not be the first thing one should have in the morning.

Parineeti Chopra often takes to her social media to share snippets of what she is eating and how she maintains her healthy lifestyle. Recently, the actor took to her Instagram Stories and shared a post which talked about the disadvantages of starting your day with a cup of coffee. The post talked about why coffee should not be your first meal of the day.

Taking to her Stories, Parineeti Chopra shared a post by lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho. Luke, who specialises in nutritional science and alternative medicine, often talks about wellness and healthy eating habits on his social media. Luke said, “Coffee is not BREAKFAST… water first, then coffee. Better still, water first, eat and then have your coffee. Stop blindly following fads from cultures that push quick fixes for fat loss and longevity. Eventually, your gut and hormonal balance and cortisol will be affected …enjoy your coffee, right time, right quality, right quality. Sugar in coffee and syrups is not coffee, it’s dessert.”

Take a look at the post here.

Sharing the post, Luke also wrote, “Wanna fast? Fast the right way—water or dry. Fasting on coffee is not fasting. Fasting in a cortisol- and adrenaline-boosted body is illogical. People with thyroid issues, high levels of chronic stress, and hormonal imbalances especially need to be cautious. Cortisol is great, but too much can be detrimental. Do it the right way—be educated, not influenced.”

Inspired by the post, here are seven things that happen to your body when coffee is the first thing you have in the morning.

  1. 1. Boost in Alertness: Caffeine quickly enters your bloodstream, stimulating your central nervous system, which can improve your focus and alertness almost immediately.
  2. 2. Increased Heart Rate: Coffee can cause a temporary increase in heart rate, thanks to the stimulating effects of caffeine, which can make you feel more energized.
  3. 3. Stimulation of Digestion: Coffee can stimulate your digestive system and increase the production of stomach acid, which can help with digestion but may also lead to acid reflux.
  4. 4. Increased Cortisol Levels: Drinking coffee first thing in the morning may spike cortisol (the stress hormone), which is naturally higher in the morning anyway.
  5. 5. Diuretic Effect: Coffee has a mild diuretic effect, meaning it can increase urine production. If you don’t drink water alongside it, this can lead to dehydration.
  6. 6. Blood Sugar Fluctuations: Having coffee on an empty stomach can cause blood sugar levels to rise quickly and then crash later on.
  7. 7. Potential for Stomach Irritation: The acidity in coffee can irritate an empty stomach, potentially causing discomfort, acid reflux, or bloating.
