Nobody likes to lose or admit defeat. Australia skipper Pat Cummins is no different, as he cheekily revealed the excuses he would make if his side were to lose the much-awaited upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

When asked about how Cummins would defend himself if Australia were to lose the BGT this time around, while in conversation with The Grade Cricketer at his podcast, the pacer replied hilariously, stating that he would make up any excuses even if it meant utilizing his teammate Cameron Green’s injury.

“I will find some (laughs). I’ll say that Cameron Green was going to open the batting and bowling.”

All jokes apart though, Green’s possible unavailability poses big problems for Australia, who will be losing out his all-round services.

Having undergone surgery for his recurring back issues and with recovery expected to take upwards of six months, Green has been ruled out of the highly-anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy against India, beginning on November 22.

In the next six months, apart from high-profile Test series against India, Green will miss the Test tour of Sri Lanka early next year as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

He could make a comeback to competitive cricket during the IPL next year and possibly play in the WTC 2025 final as well if the Baggy Greens manage to secure a place in the summit clash, which is set to take place at the Lord’s.

Cummins also revealed that he does not have any say on how wickets would be in Australia but noted that they were good during last couple of seasons.

“It feels like if someone has scored a hundred, they have batted the house down. Taken them a few sessions whereas my first couple of years, some of those wickets were so flat,” Cummins stated.

“I think some of those Indian spinning wickets as well, I think that last tour, Delhi we should have won, it just get the teams close to each other if you get the wickets like that, but you do not listen to our players complaining about those types of wickets,” he added.
