Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and popular actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has voiced concerns regarding religious conversions, highlighting several disturbing cases that have come to his attention since he took office. On Tuesday, Kalyan shared details with the media about one particular case that emphasised the severity of the issue.

“After assuming the role of deputy CM, I became aware of some cases that we managed to resolve,” Kalyan noted. He described an incident where “a girl was taken from here to Kerala and then to Bengaluru. Eventually, the police traced her to Jammu.”

As the leader of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), whose political ascent has been closely linked with cultural and religious advocacy, Kalyan expressed broader concerns about the frequency of such incidents. He urged the nation to consider the extent of this issue, saying, “These situations do occur, but the country needs to contemplate their magnitude.”

Without citing specific statistics, Kalyan suggested that the problem might be even more significant in other parts of India. “Perhaps, there are more cases in Uttar Pradesh,” he remarked, hinting at a possible widespread pattern across various states.

Kalyan’s comments come at a time when alleged forced conversions and the broader debate around “love jihad”—a contentious term used by some to describe supposed efforts by Muslim men to convert Hindu women to Islam through marriage—are under the spotlight in India.

The recently established TDP-JSP-BJP alliance government in Andhra Pradesh, where Kalyan plays a crucial role, has indicated a firmer stance on issues of religious integrity and cultural preservation.
