The rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre has emerged as one of the most talked-about topics in WWE. The two superstars have confronted each other several times since Punk returned to the company in November 2023. Their animosity finally culminated at the last Bad Blood where the duo contested in the Hell in a Cell match at WWE Bad Blood. The fight turned violent, with both wrestlers using a toolbox to establish their dominance. Punk had the last laugh as he hit McIntyre with a wrench before executing a GTS with a chain-wrapped knee.
The Scottish Psychopath sustained severe injuries, forcing him to remain sidelined for a long time. He has recently made a comeback to the main roaster. McIntyre appeared in a recent episode of ‘Hot Ones Versus’ alongside Sheamus. When asked about their long-standing rivalry, McIntyre sarcastically issued an apology to Punk.
“Punk, I’m so sorry that I raised your profile and helped erase a massive amount of negative publicity you had. I lifted you constantly and earned you the biggest contract of your entire life,” McIntyre said. As his reply failed to impress Sheamus, the Scottish Warrior was forced to eat a spicy hot wing.
Earlier, during an interaction with Daily Mail, McIntyre heaped praises on Punk, keeping aside their animosity. “As much as we have certain feelings towards each other, we both are aware we’ve got certain magic with each other. It’s a tale as old as time,” the 39-year-old said.
“The more people have a genuine disdain for each other, people can truly feel it. And if you’re good at your job, like we are, it does create magic. And the whole process was magic, and the cell itself was a match that we talked about forever,” he added.
McIntyre and Punk will once again face each other at the upcoming Royal Rumble. Some other big names like John Cena, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Jey Uso will also be part of the 30-man match. Featuring in the last episode of WWE RAW, McIntyre announced that he would throw Punk off the top rope at the premium live event, scheduled for February 2.
