There are all sorts of buttons, devices and other accoutrements on all manner of items people use daily – and yet, their purpose is often unknown.
But now the purpose of one of these mysterious implements has been cleared up.
All cars are equipped with seatbelts, and the more observant people may have noticed a small button on them.
But what is it for?
Now a US-based TikTokker has revealed the answer in a video titled What the Secret Button on your Seatbelt Does.
The content creator uses the handle @Lukefacts, and has some 160,000 followers on the platform.
In his video, he explained the purpose behind the buttons found on seatbelts.
Speaking in the video, he said: ‘Here’s what the secret button on your seat belt does.’

According to Luke (pictured), the button stops ‘the buckle from going past it, so it will always be in the right spot when you go to buckle it up’
He continued: ‘The little button on your seat belt is to stop the buckle from going past it, so it will always be in the right spot when you go to buckle it up.’
Some viewers were surprised by the revelation.
Taking to the comments section, one said: ‘Wow that seatbelt one blew my mind, I could have never thought of that.’
Another added: ‘Nobody new that, that button stops the seat[belt].’
And a third added: ‘Wow i definitely never knew the “secret button” on a seatbelt does that.’
Meanwhile, a fourth said: ‘I figured out what the seatbelt button was for because the one in my moms car broke off, so now, the buckle slides all the way down to the floor & is almost impossible to reach.’
However, not everyone was impressed to see that so many people were surprised to learn what the button is for.
Some took to the comments section to share this thought.
One commentator wrote: ‘You’re all kidding me right? How tf do people not know this stuff?’
While many were surprised to learn about the function of the button, others were shocked that so many were unaware of its purpose
In a similar vein, another added: ‘Everybody knew about the seatbelt one.’
A further viewer of the video felt the same, sharing a similar point of view.
They added: ‘Who did not know that the button on the seatbelt is meant for before this vid.’
And another viewer offered an alternative explanation.
They wrote: ‘And because they don’t want people that are small using the seatbelt not a booster.’
