Pete DeJoy, the temporary CEO of Astronomer, has finally spoken about the recent scandal at the tech company. The former CEO, Andy Byron, stepped down after a private moment with the company’s HR head, Kristin Cabot, was accidentally caught on camera during a Coldplay concert in Boston.
Now, DeJoy has shared his first public message since taking charge unexpectedly and he wants to help the company move past this unexpected situation. He said that the attention has been strange for the team, but Astronomer faced many challenges before and always come up with a solution.
Taking to LinkedIn, DeJoy said, “Over the weekend, I stepped into the role of Interim CEO at Astronomer, a company that I’ve proudly poured my entire professional life into helping build. Over the past few years, our business has experienced incredible growth. The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies, let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world, ever encounter. The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name.”
Pete DeJoy shared that “At Astronomer, we have never shied away from challenges; a near-decade of building this business has tested us time and time again, and each time we’ve emerged stronger.” The company started small in Cincinnati, Ohio, and went through many ups and downs. At one point, the bank holding all their money collapsed, but they still found a way to keep going. They also grew during the pandemic. He said the people at Astronomer are not afraid to work hard. They stay back to fix problems and always try to do what’s right. In the end, he feels that what they’re working towards is much more important than any one incident.
The new CEO concluded stating, “I’m stepping into this role with a wholehearted commitment to taking care of our people and delivering for our customers. And our story is very much still being written. To our team: thank you for your resilience and commitment to building something great. And to our community and customers: thank you for your trust. We won’t let you down.”
Andy Byron resigned three days after a video of him at the Coldplay concert in Massachusetts started spreading online. In the clip, he was seen hugging Kristin Cabot. When they noticed they were on the big screen at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, they quickly tried to move away and avoid attention, but their cosy moment was already captured.
