Petra Ecclestone sparks concern as she shares snap with her head in bandages and warns ‘keep away from the sun’

Petra Ecclestone has sparked concern after she shared a selfie with her head wrapped in a bandage.

The F1 heiress, 35, was makeup-free in the Instagram snap on Wednesday as she pouted down the lens while clad in her pyjamas.

Petra captioned the snap: ‘Guys keep away from the sun. I wish I knew more about it when I was younger and the dangers of it. Please wear SPF daily and a hat.’

The mother-of-three did not specify what had happened. MailOnline has contacted Petra’s representatives for comment.

One of the leading risks of not using SPF is overexposure to UV rays, which leads to early aging of the skin and damage that can cause skin cancer.

The NHS encourages everyone to use at least SPF 30 protection.

Regular users of sun cream with SPF 15 or higher can cut their risk of melanoma — the most deadly type of skin cancer — in half, studies have also suggested.

Around 15,000 Brits and 100,000 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma each year, the most common form of skin cancer. t in the past decade, it still kills more than 2,000 people a year.

Melanoma is often fast growing and can quickly burrow through the skin and into the blood vessels beneath.

Once the cancer cells get into the bloodstream, the disease can spread throughout the body.

Surgery is the main treatment for melanoma. Radiotherapy, medicines and chemotherapy are also sometimes used.

Petra shares a daughter Millie, three, with her husband Sam Palmer and also shares daughter Lavinia, 11, and twin sons James and Andrew, eight, with her ex-husband James Stunt.

The TV personality and husband Sam tied the knot in July 2022, enjoying a lavish ceremony at Petra’s £170 million London mansion, but now live together in Los Angeles.

HOW TO STAY SAFE IN THE SUN

Sunburn increases a person’s risk of skin cancer.

It can happen abroad or in the UK.

To stay sun safe, experts recommend people:

  • Seek shade between 11am and 3pm, which is when the sun’s rays are typically strongest
  • Wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen
  • Apply sunscreen 30 minutes, and again just before, UV exposure
  • Opt for water-resistant sunscreen if necessary and reapply after swimming, sweating or using a towel
  • Cover up with protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
  • Be extra careful with babies and young children. Infants under six months should be kept out of direct sunlight
  • Do not use sunbeds or sunlamps
  • Checks moles and skin for any changes

Earlier this year, Sam baffled fans when he went on a bizarre rant about cheaters in a video posted to his Instagram in April.

The property agent, 39, expressed his annoyance at people who are unfaithful but still ‘make a big show’ of their relationship on Instagram.

He did not reference anyone in particular who had cheated and did assure his followers: ‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to rat you out’.

In the post he asked his followers what their pet hates were and then gave his own answer, saying: ‘Today’s pet hate, people that cheat on their partners and make a big show on them on Instagram.

‘You know the ones, don’t worry, I’m not going to rat you out. But you know when the old Mother’s Day comes up or birthdays and they out the old picture up of the old family.’

Pointing out what the captions would be on those pictures he said: ‘My world, my rock, backbone of the family.’

He continued: ‘I love the ones that have been caught out by their old woman even more. Make a big show of her on Instagram – ‘oh look how gorgeous my wife is’ – yeah cos you don’t want to go through the old divorce.

‘Shrewd move, bye see you.’

He captioned the post: ‘Pet hate of the day – the cheats who over compensate on instagram. Just look for the comment MY (world emoji) #pethate #petpeeve #pethateoftheday #cheats #family.’
