A UK petrol station that has gone viral on social media for it’s unique products has been slammed by locals who are ‘confused’ by the hype.

Reviews of the garage on Bramall Lane, Sheffield, have received millions of views on social media platforms such as TikTok, with some fans even travelling up to five hours to get a glimpse of the American confectionary, unusual drinks and snacks on offer.

But, locals are baffled at why people would travel so far for a ‘small garage’ that ‘really isn’t that good’.

Containing a Subway, Costa, Tango Ice Blast machines, milkshakes and a range of snack items, the petrol station has been hailed by many online for its wide array of food and drink options.

In a TikTok video amassing more than 1.2 million views, social media influencer Morgan Bold travelled 110 miles to visit the UK’s so-called ‘best’ petrol station and described it as ‘the gift that keeps on giving’.

Meanwhile, another TikTok user, Jeremy’s Food Tour, who described it as ‘the best service station in England’ added: ‘This BP garage in Sheffield has absolutely every drink and snack imaginable.

‘They have a huge selection of Tango ice blasts. There’s also two whole aisles filled with every soft drink imaginable including Prime and soft drinks. There’s a shake and smoothie machine, nacho and dip machine, fresh popcorn and a wide variety of pick n mix from their pick n mix station.

‘Finally, there’s a huge selection of American sweets, chocolate and crisps.’

‘This has to be the go to place to grab any movie night feast from. Give them a visit, you won’t be disappointed.’

However, some visitors have been far from impressed with the petrol station, with two local residents poking fun at those who had travelled up to five hours to purchase items in a TikTok video, describing it as ‘not worth your entire day as it is just like any other local corner shop’.

They added: ‘Is it worth it to travel five hours to come to this? No, absolutely not. However, if you live five minutes away, you should come. It’s a good local corner shop.

‘It’s cool to come here, it’s a novelty, but don’t travel five hours, save your petrol.’

Other locals appear to be just flat out confused why people are so amazed by the miniature petrol station, with one commenter saying: ‘Sheffield girl here. Are you lot okay? It’s a garage’, while another asked: ‘Why are people spending so much in petrol to go to a petrol station?’

Some were quick to criticise the ‘absolutely extortionate’ prices on offer, while another Sheffield resident added: ‘As someone who lives nearby so is here all the time I really don’t get why people would travel so far’.

One user said it ‘actually baffles me that people are travelling cross country to my local petrol station’, while a disappointed customer remarked: ‘Me and my boyfriend drove 180 miles to go to this and it was a massive let down! Machines weren’t even working’.

The petrol station’s site manager, Amrik Singh, said they decided to increase the number of confectionary and drinks available due to the increasing popularity.

He told The Sheffield Star: ‘We thought it was a new area of products and we just tried it in small amounts and it was selling very good, so we then started to get more of it.’

‘Very happy’ with the petrol’s station’s growing success as a result of their new found internet fame, he said that he has ‘watched almost all’ of the online viral videos.

He added: ‘We have given them hampers and thanked them because it is them who have made us famous’.
