The first images of a couple who died following a hit and run on Boxing Day have been released.
Anthony Hogg and his wife Georgina Hogg-Moore died after the incident on December 26 on Blanchardstown Road North, west Dublin, while they were walking near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at around 5:45pm.Â
Mrs Hogg-Moore, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr Hogg, 40, died as a result of his injuries in hospital. Four people were involved in the crash, but no other injuries were reported.
A man in his 40s has since been arrested after he presented himself at the local police station on the same evening of the couple’s deaths.Â
The couple leave behind two children, one of whom was with them at the time of the incident. According to reports, she was hit by a wing mirror and suffered some bruising.Â
According to the Irish Sun, Gardaà believe that she may have been pushed to safety by her parents. Â
A vigil was held at the spot where the incident happened on Friday evening, which included the release of blue and white balloons. Â
Mrs Hogg-Moore’s sister, Katie Moore, paid tribute on social media saying the family was ‘absolutely broken-hearted’ before appealing for anyone with information to come forward.Â

Gardaà believe that the couple’s daughter may have been pushed to safety by her parents.

The couple’s niece, Kirstie Moore, also appealed for information online, describing the pair as having ‘the most genuine hearts and souls’ adding that their family had ‘no words to describe’ how they were feeling.Â
Mrs Hogg-Moore’s cousin, Carly Gray, told the Irish Sun the ‘tragedy has torn [their] family apart’ adding that the couple were ‘loved beyond measure’.Â
‘They were just going out for dinner and their lives were taken — they have been taken from us all’, she said.Â
In a statement issued on Friday, Gardaà confirmed a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.Â
‘Investigating Gardaà arrested a man (aged in his 40s) in connection with this incident yesterday evening, Thursday 26th December 2024’, the statement reads. ‘He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin.
‘A technical examination of the scene has been completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has now reopened.
‘Gardaà continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
‘Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday, 26th December 2024, and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating GardaÃ.
