Jasprit Bumrah shared his first reaction on social media. The star Indian pacer congratulated the team for securing a historic third ICC Champions Trophy by beating New Zealand by 4 wickets in Dubai on Sunday.
Bumrah had made an appearance during the campaign where he was present at the ground during India’s group-stage clash against Pakistan, but not as a player.
Bumrah shared a post on Instagram congratulating the team for their stellar achievement. His post was captioned saying, “Played like true champions! Congratulations to the entire team on a wonderful tournament and a well deserved win!”.
The pacer was ruled out of the tournament due to injury, which was a worry for the Indian side coming into the tournament. But the Rohit Sharma-led side managed to pull through in the end with a fine win over New Zealand to win their historic third title.
After a valiant effort in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, the pacer picked up an injury in the first innings of the Sydney Test, which resulted in him being unable to bowl in the final innings as well. Since then the Indian Cricket Board has been trying to push his recovery to ensure his availability in the Champions Trophy, but in the end, it was decided that he would be ruled out.
Regarding Bumrah’s return, a report by the Times of India claims that the pacer could even miss out on the first few weeks of the upcoming Indian Premier League.
The pacer has grown to become an indispensable asset to the Indian team across all three formats and is also arguably one of the best bowlers in the world presently.
The Indian team management will be hoping that Bumrah can get back to fitness for the IPL along with the England Test tour that follows.
