Senior Indian women’s cricketers, Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Pooja Vastrakar, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spinner Asha Sobhana, have been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL)’s upcoming 2025 edition due to injuries. MI have named Under-19 T20 World Cup winner Parunika Sisodia as the replacement while RCB have roped in Railways wicketkeeper Nuzhat Parween.
In a statement, MI said that Vastrakar has yet to recover from an ankle injury that has kept her out of action since October 2024. Sobhana, meanwhile, suffered a knee injury in the leadup to India’s clash against Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and hasn’t played any competitive cricket since.
“Fresh from winning the under-19 T20 World Cup and bamboozling opponents with his superb left-arm spin, Parunika Sisodia is all set to join the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2025 Women’s Premier League. She joins at her base price of INR 10 lakhs,” MI said in a statement.
“Her 3/21 against England in the semi-final and 2/6 against South Africa in the final are testament to the talent and the big-stage temperament we are talking about. She’s set to replace Pooja Vastrakar, who, unfortunately, hasn’t recovered from her injury that’s kept her out of action since October 2024. Paltan, let’s get together and wish our star all-rounder a speedy recovery!” the franchise added.
Parunika, who won the Player of the Match award for the England match, was part of the Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the league. She now joins MI for Rs. 10 lakh.
Meanwhile, Parween has represented India in five T20Is. She will join RCB for her base price of Rs. 30 lakh.
