Popular dressing sold at Trader Joe’s recalled due to deadly allergens

Honey mustard dressing sold at Trader Joe’s in over a dozen states has been recalled due to ‘undeclared’ peanut and soy allergens.

Manufacturer Fresh Creative Foods voluntarily recalled Trader Joe’s Hot Honey Mustard Dressing due to a labelling error.

The incorrect label failed to include mention the product contains peanuts, soy, sesame, and wheat, which could cause unknowing customers to suffer potentially deadly allergic reactions.

The dressing was distributed to Trader Joe’s locations in Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia, as well as Washington DC.

The affected products had a ‘Use By’ date of May 27, 2025. It’s unclear exactly how many bottles of dressing were recalled.

No illnesses have been reported so far.

Nearly 10million Americans combined are allergic to peanuts, soy, sesame, and wheat.

Peanut allergies are the most common among this group, affecting almost 5million people in the US, the majority of whom are children.

Experts estimate 150 to 200 Americans die from food allergies every year due to anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that causes the immune system to release a flood of antibodies to ward off the foreign invader.

This causes skin reactions like hives, low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, and the airways to close in and restrict breathing.

According to the Mayo Clinic, peanuts, milk, fish, and shellfish are the most common anaphylaxis triggers.

The FDA has not given the recall a designation, though it could be classified as Class I due to the life-threatening risks.

A Class I recall describes ‘a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,’ according to the FDA.

Fresh Creative Foods encourages customers who have purchased the dressing to return it to Trader Joe’s for a full refund or throw it out.
