Mohamed Salah appears to be on a record-breaking spree in this Premier League season. The Liverpool star achieved another historic feat in the last game against Manchester United which ended in a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Salah scored the second goal for the hosts, converting a penalty in the 70th minute. With the strike, he equalled the record of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for the seventh-highest scorer in Premier League history.
Salah has netted 175 goals in 282 appearances in the English top flight since joining Liverpool in 2017. The Egyptian forward remains 85 goals away from dethroning Alan Shearer from the top of the elite list. Salah is the leading goal scorer in the Premier League this season. He has found the back of the net 18 times during the 2024-25 campaign. He has also provided 13 assists.
With his goal against Manchester United, Salah also beat former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to secure a stunning record, according to OptaJoe. His 31 goal involvements are the most by any Premier League player after 19 matches in a season. At the same stage, Suarez contributed to 30 goals during the 2013-14 season. The Uruguayan forward scored 23 goals and recorded seven assists.
Salah aims to add 12 more goals to his Premier League tally this season to claim the fourth spot in the all-time scoring charts. If he manages to do so, the 32-year-old will overtake Andy Cole and remain only behind Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to run out in the summer of 2025. If the club doesn’t extend his stay, Salah will leave as a free agent. When asked about his future at Anfield, Salah recently told Sky Sports, “There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”
“The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was concerned or stressed about the contract? Or do you just want to say I had an unbelievable season? That’s what is in my head,” he added.
Salah has enjoyed incredible success since his arrival at Liverpool. He has won the Premier League title, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the Carabao Cup and the FA Community Shield. During the 2022-23 season, Salah shattered Robbie Fowler’s record to become Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League.
