Protests have erupted across Pakistan following the arrest of prominent Baloch human rights activist Mahrang Baloch, CNN-News18 has learnt. These protests demonstrate widespread outrage over state crackdowns and systemic oppression in Balochistan. The protesters observed March 27 as a Black Day.

Demonstrations have erupted in various parts of Sindh and Balochistan, including Quetta, Karachi, and Gwadar. Protesters are demanding Mahrang’s immediate release and an end to enforced disappearances in Balochistan.

These protests have led to clashes with security forces, resulting in casualties and numerous arrests. Karachi police banned all protest gatherings in the city and made widespread arrests without summons.

Top Indian intelligence sources say that the arrest of Mahrang Baloch has become a flashpoint for broader Baloch demands for justice and autonomy. “The Pakistani government is calling these actions counter-terrorism measures, but they are repression of peaceful dissent,” said a source.

The ongoing protests in Balochistan represent a critical juncture in the region’s struggle and call for global intervention to address human rights abuses. This kind of behaviour towards any female protester is unheard of in a democratic country and demonstrates an abuse of state power, said sources.
