It is important to note that there is no such file in our department and we started getting queries from the public for the scheme, a government official said, explaining the ‘non-existent’ Sanjeevani Yojana.
The Aam Aadmi Party announced post-poll promises in a way that people started believing the schemes have been launched, an official from Delhi’s Health and Family Welfare department told News18, explaining a public notice in newspapers that labelled the schemes “non-existent”.
The drama began after AAP began a registration drive for Sanjeevani Yojana, a scheme to provide free treatment to Delhi’s residents aged over 60 at private and government hospitals. The Women and Child Development department also clarified that the Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises Rs 2,100 per month to women in the capital, had not been notified.
Speaking to News18, a government official said they were forced to issue the order as there was a misconception among the public. Both the departments were getting queries from the public regarding the “non-existent” schemes.
“It is important to note that there is no such file in our department and we started getting queries from the public. This makes us issue the order,” the government official from the Health Department said, requesting anonymity.
When News18 contacted the Women and Child Department, they said the Cabinet approval is for Rs 1,000 per month per woman in Delhi and not Rs 2,100, as promised by AAP.
“Political parties make many promises but it is not important that they become reality. As government departments, it is our responsibility to make people aware of what is happening on ground and what is not,” another official said.
Over the last few weeks AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has announced two schemes – Mahila Samman and Sanjivani Yojana. These will come into action after elections are held in the next few weeks, and only if AAP forms the next government.
The registration for these post-poll schemes also started from Monday, with both party convener Kejriwal and CM Atishi visiting several areas and launching doorstep registration.
The BJP since morning has been targeting the ruling AAP for ‘misleading the public’. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, in a statement in Hindi, said it is an “extremely unfortunate situation”.
“The Delhi government is doing exactly what digital fraudsters do — collecting people’s private data that could potentially be misused. By launching schemes without proper notification, they are misleading the public, especially women and senior citizens,” he said.
Countering the claims, Kejriwal said the Opposition is “very upset” with the scheme.
“They have made a plans to arrest Atishi ji in the next few days by making a fake case. Before that, raids will be conducted on senior leaders of AAP,” he posted on X in Hindi.
Adding to his statement, AAP also posted on X saying the schemes are getting great response from the public and so the BJP is scared.
“No matter what the BJP does, public is with Kejriwal ji and Chief Minister Atishi…,” AAP posted on X in Hindi.
The Kejriwal-led party has also come out with an Artificial Intelligence ad with the party supremo in a Santa Claus avatar.
What Is There In The Notices?
The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) said it has been brought to their notice through media reports and social media posts that a political party is claiming to disburse Rs 2,100 per month under Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana to women in Delhi.
“It is clarified that no such scheme has been notified by Government of Delhi. As, if and when such a scheme is notified, the Department… will launch a digital portal for eligible individuals to submit their applications online as per the approved guidelines,” it said.
The public notice also reads that eligibility conditions and modalities will be clearly notified by the department as and when it happens.
“Details of all WCD Department Schemes are available only on the website of the Department. It is emphasized that since no such scheme exists, the question of physical forms/applications for the registration under this non-existent scheme does not arise,” it said.
The Department also warned the public that any private individual or political party collecting such physical forms and applications or collecting information from applicants under the name of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana is fraudulent and without any authority.
“Citizens are cautioned that sharing personal details, such as bank account information, voter ID card, phone numbers, residential address, or any other sensitive information in the name of this scheme, are at a collateral risk of putting out information in public domain that may lead to crime/cybercrime/banking fraud, targeting them and they will be entirely at their own risk and will be liable for any such consequences,” it added.
The Health and Family Welfare Department also said they have learnt that a supposed scheme named ‘Sanjeevani Yojana’ is being propagated among residents of Delhi, which claims to provide free treatment of people, aged above 60 years, at all Delhi Hospitals (Government or Private), irrespective of income criteria.
“Further, it has also come to the notice of Department and has been evident from media/news that a registration drive to get enrolled under this scheme by filling up physical forms, has also been started by some political functionaries /volunteers who are visiting door to door to collect information from elderly citizens and handing over to them some sort of “Health/Sanjeevani Scheme Card”,” they said.
They went on to say that the purported registration forms are seeking details of senior citizens, that include phone numbers, addresses. Aadhar and Bank Account details.
“..due to the various news/media reports the elderly citizens have started visiting Government Hospitals and Offices to enquire about this scheme,” it added.
The Department also said that it does not have any such supposed “Sanjeevani Scheme” in existence till date.
“… The health department neither has authorised any health official or anybody to collect such personal information and data from elderly citizens, nor is the department providing any card in this regard,” it explained.
The Department emphasized that since no such scheme exists, the question of physical forms and applications for the registration under such non-existent scheme does not arise and any private individual and political party collecting such physical forms or applications or collecting information from applicants under the name of “Sanjeevani Yojana” is “fraudulent and without any authority”.
