Vladimir Putin has today declared a unilateral ceasefire in the Ukraine war to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
The surprise three-day ceasefire will occur from May 8 to 10, coinciding with Moscow’s World War II Victory Day commemorations, the Kremlin said Monday.
‘Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example. In the event of violations of the truce by the Ukrainian side, the Russian armed forces will give an adequate and effective response,’ the Kremlin said.
Putin earlier announced a unilateral ceasefire on attacks on energy infrastructure – which he broke.
