Queen Letizia has made a surprising change to her wardrobe – so can YOU guess what it is?

Queen Letizia of Spain is renowned for her bold and immaculate fashion choices, not least her sky-high heels.

However, earlier this year, the monarch, 51, fractured a toe on her right foot and so traded in her signature heels for comfortable footwear.

In May, Letizia debuted a pair of white trainers at an official event for the first time.

And over the weeks that followed, she continued to pair her fresh white kicks with trouser suits in a spectrum of colours.

But now, the Spanish monarch has been favouring a new, elegant style: block-heeled sandals.

In July, Queen Letizia elevated a sequinned Self-Portrait dress with £565 mid-heeled sandals from Aquazzura

Queen Letizia is believed to have been suffering from Morton’s neuroma in her left foot since 2022.

This condition is characterised by a thickening of the tissue around the nerves between the third and fourth metatarsal bones.

It can cause severe stabbing pain, numbness and tingling.

She is also reported to have metatarsalgia – pain in the ball of the foot – in both feet, which also explains why she has been choosing comfortable shoes.

Her favourite trainers appear to be the Primus Lite Knit, costing £140, by British sustainable running shoe label Vivobarefoot.

Crafted from recycled plastics, with woven detailing, these shoes aim to make the wearer feel ‘as close to barefoot as possible.’

Letizia was spotted wearing these shoes, with various trouser suits, in May, June and July.

In July, Letizia showcased a variety of shoes from both high street and luxury designers, including Mango, Aquazzura and Dior.

Her silver faux leather Mango sandals, priced at £45.99, were a perfect pick.

The block heel and metallic sheen paired beautifully with her BOSS slip dress and Barbara Goenaga diamond earrings.

A week earlier, the monarch chose Aquazzura’s sought-after Sundance mid-heeled sandals.

Crafted in Italy from light gold mirrored leather, the £565 design boasts a quilted effect on the 5cm heel and delicate straps.

These sandals were an ideal match for Letizia’s stunning Self-Portrait sequinned dress.

It seems Letizia is opting for shoes one size larger for enhanced comfort.

She also indulged in two pairs of Hugo Boss sandals, costing £239 each, and an £890 style from Dior.

The black fringed grosgrain upper of the latter features a deconstructed bow, adorned with a signature resin pearl.

With their ankle strap and 4cm heel, these shoes added a sophisticated touch the royal’s beaded ensemble from the luxury French fashion house.

This choice marks a clear departure from Letizia’s previous high-heeled pumps in versatile hues of black and beige, usually from extravagant brands such as Saint Laurent and Carolina Herrera.
