The Notebook actress — who made her Broadway debut earlier this year — is only at the negotiation stage and hasn’t officially taken on a role in the film, sources told Deadline on Saturday.

Send Help is expected to release in theaters, although a release date has yet to be revealed.

The film is also based on an original script that was written by both Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

Rachel McAdams, 45, is eyeing a role in Sam Raimi’s upcoming horror-thriller titled Send Help – after the pair collaborated on Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness in 2022

According to Deadline, the upcoming movie has been described as a ‘two-hander horror-thriller set on an island’ and is ‘somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway.’

Sam is no stranger to the horror-thriller genre, and directed films such as The Evil Dead (1981) and two sequels.

In 1992, he directed the horror comedy called, Army Of Darkness, and also worked on Drag Me To Hell in 2009.

Raimi also directed Spider-Man (2002) and its two sequels which notably starred Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco.

And in 2022, the filmmaker stepped back into the superhero universe and directed the sequel Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

McAdams, 45, notably reprised her role of Dr. Christine Palmer, which she had played in the first film Doctor Strange (2016).

Rachel previously opened up about working with Raimi and told Collider in a past interview, ‘I love Sam so much. He’s just such a pro, but he’s so humble and so collaborative.’

‘He’s the nicest man. It’s always those ones that do the horror films that are so nice. It’s so strange.’

The About Time actress added, ‘Like Wes Craven, same thing. Nice, he’s most soft spoken person. And then they just exercise it all on the screen, which is the best place to do it…’

And while talking to Variety in 2022, the star discussed her reasoning behind coming back to the world of Doctor Strange and explained, ‘Well, I mean, to get to work with Sam.’

‘And I said, “Sam, I’m pregnant. Is that okay.” But of course, he can’t say it’s not,’ she humorously added. ‘He was like, “This is great. Let’s do it.”‘

‘And I’ve got lots of exciting ideas for Christine and her evolution. He took me through the whole journey and it just sounded really fun and thoughtful and I was excited to come back.’

McAdams has also dabbled in the horror-thriller genre in the past – such as starring in the horror mystery titled, Red Eye, in 2005. The movie had also cast Cillian Murphy and Brian Cox.

Rachel has been keeping busy throughout 2024, and made her Broadway debut in the play titled, Mary Jane, in April.

The mother-of-two was also been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play due to her performance.

Mary Jane initially opened back in 2017 at the Yale Repertory Theatre and had its Broadway debut with McAdams in the leading role. The play officially concluded shows back in June.

During an interview with Broadway.com, the actress opened up about the difference of working on a play versus film or television.

‘Yeah, it’s very different from doing film or television. The workout my brain is going through to learn all these lines and then not just throw them away, you know?’ she explained.

‘In film and television, you learn a page, you throw it away, you never see it again until maybe a reshoot a year later.’

Rachel humorously added, ‘I love coming to work in my pajamas and staying in them. Film and television, you might show up in your pajamas, but you’re not gonna stay that way.’

‘So, as you know, just kind of not thinking about hair and makeup, and just really getting into the nitty gritty and the meat of it everyday…,’ the star continued.

And in June, she made a glamorous appearance at the 77th Annual Tony Awards in NYC, and was accompanied by her father Lance McAdams and mother Sandra McAdams during the festivities.
