Rachin Ravindra is on fire for New Zealand in the second semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025, which is currently underway at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In the match against South Africa, the left-handed batter opened the innings for the Black Caps after captain Mitchell Santner opted to bat first and crossed the 100-run mark by running two runs on the first ball of the 32nd over bowled by Kagiso Rabada. By completing his century in the semifinal against South Africa, Rachin joined an elite list of batters.

The 25-year-old is only the fifth cricketer in the world after Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar, India’s Sourav Ganguly, Sri Lanka’s Upul Tharanga, and India’s Shikhar Dhawan to score multiple centuries in one edition of the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy.

Rachin, who scored his first century in the Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24, hammered three centuries in the 2023 ODI World Cup for the Black Caps. In fact, all of his five ODI centuries for New Zealand have come in the ICC events, and by scoring five centuries in just 13 innings, he also broke Dhawan’s record of being the fastest batter to register five triple-digit scores in ICC events.

Legendary Pakistani batter Anwar was the first batter to score multiple centuries in one edition of the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy. He hammered two centuries for Men in Green in the 1999 ODI World Cup and two centuries in the 2000 Champions Trophy.

Ganguly also scored two centuries for India in the 2000 Champions Trophy, and in the 2003 edition of the ODI World Cup, he crossed the triple-figure mark three times.

Sri Lanka’s Tharanga scored two centuries each in the 2006 Champions Trophy and the 2011 ODI World Cup, whereas India’s Dhawan also crossed the triple-figure mark two times each in the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2015 ODI World Cup.
