Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and family took a break from their hectic schedules to enjoy a cozy lunch featuring Kwality restaurant’s iconic chhole bhature in Delhi.
After months of intense election campaigns, from the Lok Sabha polls to Assembly elections, the Gandhi family enjoyed a rare day of relaxation on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, both Congress MPs from Rae Bareli and Wayanad respectively, took a break from their busy schedules to spend quality time with their family at the legendary Kwality restaurant in Delhi’s Connaught Place.
Joining them were Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka’s husband Robert Vadra, their daughter Miraya Vadra, and Robert’s mother. The family came together to indulge in the restaurant’s famous delicacies, including the signature chhole bhature, in a warm and joyous atmosphere.
Rahul Gandhi shared glimpses of the family lunch on his WhatsApp status, captioned, “Family lunch at the iconic Kwality Restaurant.” The photos, which quickly made their way onto social media, showcased the family sharing smiles and enjoying their meal in a cozy corner of the eatery. Netizens were quick to respond, applauding the family’s rare and heartwarming moment together.
The images captured Sonia Gandhi smiling warmly, while Robert Vadra gleefully displayed a freshly puffed bhatura. The photos also served as a symbolic frame, representing three Parliamentarians from the Gandhi family—Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia—coming together over a meal.
For those unfamiliar, Kwality restaurant has a storied history. Established during the pre-Independence era, it was a popular haunt for American soldiers stationed in India. Over the decades, it has become a cherished destination for food lovers, known for its timeless menu featuring multi-continental cuisines and, of course, its legendary chhole bhature.
The restaurant’s famous football-sized bhature, crafted using a unique handclapping technique, has won over patrons ranging from politicians like Maneka Gandhi to film icons like Nargis. Despite the rise of international culinary trends, Kwality remains a beloved institution.
In an earlier interview with The New Indian Express, Divij and Dhruv Lamba, descendants of Kwality’s founder P.L. Lamba, shared how the restaurant has maintained its legacy. They revealed that the menu has remained largely unchanged over the years, preserving its classic appeal. “There’s no secret to our chhole bhature—just skilled chefs and a time-tested recipe,” said Divij, adding with a grin, “But our Chicken Ala Kiev is a close contender, though nothing beats the bhature.”
For the Gandhi family, this special meal was a delightful pause amid their hectic lives, a moment of comfort and connection at a place steeped in culinary and cultural heritage.
