BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu, who joined the BJP ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections but lost the Ludhiana seat, said India’s enemies are in support of Rahul Gandhi

Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu on Sunday sparked a major controversy, calling Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi “terrorist number one” over the Congress leader’s remarks on the Sikh community.

Bittu, who joined the BJP ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, said Gandhi is not Indian and India’s enemies are supporting him.

“Rahul Gandhi is not an Indian, he has spent most of his time outside. He does not love his country much because he goes abroad and says everything in a wrong way…The people who are most wanted, separatists, experts in making bombs, guns and shells, have appreciated what Rahul Gandhi has said,” he said.

“The enemies of the country who try to blow up planes, trains, roads, they are in support of Rahul Gandhi…If there should be an award to catch the number one terrorist and the biggest enemy of the country, it should be on Rahul Gandhi,” he added.

Three-time Lok Sabha MP Bittu was inducted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet as Union Minister of State Railway & Food Processing Industries after he lost Ludhina seat in 2024. Later, he was elected as a Rajya Sabha Member from Rajasthan.

Congress Slams Bittu

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate responded to Bittu’s remark and referred him “snakes in the grass”.

“The one, who made his entire political career by following Rahul Gandhi, is sitting in the lap of his opponents and giving cheap statements in his greed for power. Ravneet Bittu you should bark more because the world should know your dirty reality. In the scriptures, people like you have been called snakes in the grass,” the Congress leader posted on X.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said Bittu is showing his loyalty to the BJP after resigning from the grand-old-party.

“We can only pity such people. His political career in Congress was also a mess…He used to praise Rahul Gandhi…and now after resigning from Congress and joining BJP, he is showing his loyalty to the BJP party…,” he told ANI.

What Rahul Gandhi Said?

Addressing a gathering of several hundred Indian Americans in Washington DC, Gandhi accused the RSS of considering some religions, languages and communities of being inferior to others and said the fight in India is about this, and not about politics. Gandhi asked the name of one of the Sikh attendees in the front rows during the programme. “What is your name, brother with the turban,” he asked.

“The fight is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be able to go to a gurdwara. That’s what the fight is about. And not just for him, for all religions,” said Gandhi.

The BJP has come down heavily on Gandhi over his remarks in the US about the Sikh community, saying the Congress leader is trying to create a “dangerous narrative” by speaking on “sensitive issues” abroad.
