Ramadan or Ramzan, a month which is considered the biggest test of prayer, patience, goodness and self-restraint, is about to begin. For every Muslim, it is not just a ritual, but a golden opportunity to bring oneself closer to Allah.

But is Roza (fasting) just about staying hungry and thirsty from morning to evening? No! The real Roza is the one that purifies the body, mind and soul.

Maulana Inayatullah Qadri, Imam of the Jama Masjid in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, shared some special insights on the real meaning behind Roza. He says that Ramzan is not just about enduring hunger and thirst, but it is a means of improving one’s entire life.

He also stated that it is mentioned in the Hadith that “the person who observes fast with a true heart, prays and makes his deeds good, his past and future sins are forgiven”.

The true essence of fasting is not just about keeping the stomach empty, but it also teaches the cleanliness of the mind and soul. It means that one should also refrain from acts like lying, cheating, dishonesty, hatred and hurting someone. Because if you have not eaten anything the whole day, but hurt someone, got angry or did not keep yourself away from sins, then such a fast is not liked by Allah.

Fast is considered complete when a person keeps his thoughts, his intentions and his actions pure.

Fasting also creates sympathy in the heart of a person. When someone himself remains hungry and thirsty throughout the day, only then he feels the pain of the poor who go through this trouble every day. This is the reason why charity (Zakat) is very important during Ramadan. The more you help the poor, the more blessings you will get.

Therefore, Ramadan does not mean only praying for yourself, but becoming a source of mercy for the entire society.

Eid-ul-Fitr—The Day of Happiness!

The reward for a month of worship, restraint and good deeds is received in the form of Eid. Eid-ul-Fitr means the day of happiness, when every Muslim gets the fruits of his worship. On this day, people forget their grievances and embrace each other, strengthen relationships and feel the real happiness of Eid by helping the needy.

The real purpose of fasting is not to bring about some changes for 30 days, but to adopt these habits for life.
