Ramadan Timetable 2025: Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a holy month observed by Muslims around the world. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset by refraining from food and drink throughout the day.
The fast begins with Sehri (a pre-dawn meal) and ends with Iftar (evening meal) to break the fast. Ramadan is not just about staying hungry but a golden opportunity to bring oneself closer to Allah. The month concludes with the grand celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr which marks the end of fasting and a time of joy and togetherness.
Importance Of Sighting Ramadan Moon
The beginning of Ramadan is not fixed as it depends on the sighting of the crescent moon. Every year, Muslims search for the new moon on the 29th evening of Shabaan (the month before Ramadan).
This sighting marks the beginning of Ramadan. Typically, countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE and some Western nations spot the crescent first. South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh usually spot the moon a day later. In places like Saudi Arabia, official bodies confirm the sighting before announcing the start of the holy month.
A Unique Moon Sighting In 2025
The year 2025 brings a rare moment for the global Muslim community.
For once, Muslims in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan will look for the crescent moon on the same day as those in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and other Arab countries. This is because all these nations started the month of Shabaan on the same day.
With this, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with moon sighting committees in countries like the UAE, Qatar, India, Pakistan and others, has announced that Muslims should look for the crescent moon of Ramadan on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025. This date corresponds to the 29th of Shabaan 1446 AH, in the Islamic calendar.
If the crescent moon is sighted on that evening, Taraweeh prayers will begin the same night and the first fast of Ramzan month will be observed on Saturday, March 1, 2025. However, if the moon is not visible after Maghrib (the evening prayer), the holy month will start a day later, on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
