Rashami Desai is a well-known TV actress who has won hearts with her performances in shows like Uttaran and Pari Hoon Main. She recently joined the cast of Wagle Ki Duniya: Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey where she plays the role of Meenakshi Kapoor, Kittu’s real mother. In a recent interview, she talked about her comfort in playing motherly roles on screen.
Rashami shared that she once believed playing a mother or a sister-in-law on TV would limit her career. But over time, she realised this was just a misconception.
“Earlier I also had such thoughts of not wanting to play a mother or a bhabhi’s role on TV. But as time went by and I understood things better, I realised that all this was just a myth. There is nothing wrong in playing a mother on TV,” she said in an interview to ETimes.
The Uttaran actress also mentioned that she played a mother in one of her earlier shows which the audience appreciated. When asked about being too young for such roles, she said that what truly matters is having a good story and a strong script.
“People also say that you are too young to play a mother, but I feel that the story should be good. I just want to do good work, the script and content are king. So other things don’t matter. I want to focus on the craft and do quality work,” she said.
Apart from her work in Wagle Ki Duniya, Rashami Desai has also made her mark in regional cinema. She was seen in the Gujarati film Mom Tane Nai Samjay, a family drama directed by Dharmessh Mehta and written by Radheshyam.
Talking about her experience of working in regional films, Rashami shared that exploring different languages and cultures as an actor has given her more opportunities to grow.
While Rashami is now comfortable playing motherly roles on screen, she had her doubts when it came to portraying the mother of two teenagers in the film. In an earlier interview with Zoom/Telly Talk India, she admitted, “Honestly, I didn’t want to do the film. I felt that I would be typecast if I played the role of a mother. However, when Dharmesh Mehta narrated the film to me, I quickly decided to be a part of it. The story is very good and the dialogues of the film are very relatable.”
Mom Tane Nai Samjay also features Amar Upadhyay, Namit Shah, and Virti Vaghani in key roles. It was released on January 10 this year.
