India’s veteran all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja shared a cryptic post on social media which has the internet in a frenzy. The 36-year-old was a part of the team that lost out the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia as the side came under massive pressure.
In Jadeja’s Instagram Story, a photo of his special pink kit from the Sydney Test can be seen. However, the context behind the post remains a mystery. Over the years, Jadeja has been a crucial asset for the Indian team, particularly in the Test format where he has made a name for himself in the middle order.
According to a report by Times of India, Jadeja’s future hangs in the balance with the Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, keen on developing a core team for each format. It remains to be seen whether Gambhir would go with a tried-and-tested formula as seen in the 2023 ODI World Cup or whether he would bring his spin to it.
Gambhir has been very assertive about creating core teams according to formats. As of now, he hasn’t quite tinkered with the longer formats but has a clear vision for creating a strong base for the ODI World Cup, He is keen on giving exposure to a few more identified players,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying.
It is all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick on. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in Jadeja or move on right now,” the source added.
The Indian Test team’s next assignment will be the tour against England and the report claims that Jadeja remains in contention purely because of the lack of experience in the middle-order. It is also suggested that the selectors would have to take a call in the home leg.
Axar Patel will be Jadeja’s biggest rival for the spin-bowling all-rounder slot and the former has been touted to be Jadeja’s successor for quite some time. It remains to be seen if the selectors will take a call on Jadeja’s future in the international circuit.
