Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Titans, IPL 2025:
Gujarat Titans registered an 8-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday to hand RCB their first defeat of the IPL 2025 campaign.
GT limited RCB to a total of 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets as Mohammed Siraj claimed a three-wicket haul before chasing down the target with 13 balls to spare, riding on Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73-run knock.
GT won the toss and opted to field first as their day got off to a bright start with pacer Arshad Khan, in for South African seamer Kagido Rabada who missed the game due to personal reasons, removed Virat Kohli for 8 runs. Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Devdutt Padikkal was scalped for 4 runs by Mohammed Siraj.
RCB kept losing wickets in regular intervals as Phil Salt, who was dropped in the very first over of the game, fell to Siraj for 14 runs, before skipper Rajat Patidar was dismissed by Ishant Sharma for a run-a-ball-12.
Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma put up a fifty-run stand before the latter fell to spinner Sai Kishore for 33 off 21 deliveries. Kishore went on to double his tally with the caught-and-bowled removal of Krunal Pandya for 5 runs off as many balls shortly after.
Livingstone brought up his half-century before Siraj scalped the Englishman to complete his three-fer, before Tim David’s late cameo of 32 off 18 deliveries before falling to Prasidh Krishna propelled RCB to 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Gujarat got the chase off on a positive note as both Sai Sudharsan and Shubman looked to settle in well before the latter was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the fifth over for 14 runs. But, Buttler took crease and steadied the innings to take his side into triple digits alongside the promising young southpaw Sudharsan.
Sudharsan missed out on his half-century as he was caught behind after a miscues ramp shot was picked up by Jitesh without any fuss.
Impact player Sherfane Rutherford, who replaced Ishant for the second innings, took stance and accompanied Buttler to the finish line as the Windies southpaw chipped in with 20 runs off 18 deliveries as he finished off the game with a six.
