Real Madrid’s future in La Liga could be in jeopardy, with reports suggesting the club is growing increasingly frustrated over the league’s refereeing standards. Tensions escalated further after midfielder Jude Bellingham received a red card from referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero during a match against Osasuna.
According to a report from Sport, Real Madrid is now considering the possibility of leaving La Liga and joining a foreign league. Potential destinations mentioned include Serie A, Ligue 1, or the Bundesliga. Any such move would require approval from FIFA, the respective league in question, and UEFA before becoming a reality.
An article published by The Real Champs claimed that the leagues Real Madrid could join after the La Liga fallout are—Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
Earlier this month, Real Madrid had lodged an official complaint expressing their grievances following the alleged refereeing mistakes. The club had complained to the Spanish Football Federation and the country’s top sports authority. The letter was sent after Real Madrid’s 1-0 loss to Espanyol in the La Liga.
As per the news agency AP, Real Madrid said that their board of directors agreed to send the “formal complaint … in the wake of the poor refereeing performance at the RCDE Stadium. The club reportedly complained primarily of a harsh foul on Kylian Mbappe by Espanyol defender Carlos Romero in the 60th minute. Romero was shown a yellow card but Real Madrid felt that the challenge must have resulted in the player getting a red card.
Reacting to Real Madrid’s complaint, Spanish league president Javier Tebas told the reporters, as per AP, “They have built up an exaggerated tale of victimization that is completely baseless with, in my opinion, the goal of undermining the competition. It is completely over the top. They have lost their minds.”
Real Madrid is currently placed in the second spot in the La Liga standings. Having played 24 matches so far, they have collected 51 points. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have till now recorded 15 wins in this season’s La Liga.
