Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday said the group’s company Reliance Retail is planning to expand its network to 1,700 stores in Bengal over the next three years, from the current 1,300. He was speaking at the West Bengal Investment Summit in Kolkata.
“At present, we operate a network of over 1,300 stores in West Bengal, spanning an area of over 8 million sq. ft. across 400+ cities in West Bengal. We plan to expand our network to 1,700 stores in the next three years, operating 2.2 million sq. ft. of warehouses in the state,” Ambani said while speaking at the Summit.
He also said the company’s new commerce and express delivery business has empowered lakhs of kiranas in the state by bringing them under the umbrella of modern retail.
“This has enabled them to increase their productivity and income, and reap benefits of scale,” Ambani added.
Reliance Industries CMD Mukesh Ambani also announced a fresh investment commitment of Rs 50,000 crore in West Bengal by the end of this decade, and added that the investment would generate one lakh jobs in the state.
“It’s the best time to invest in West Bengal,” said Ambani adding that in the era of knowledge economy, West Bengal has a special advantage.
