Along with its thrilling storylines, Stan’s Yellowstone is famed for its rugged location in the US state of Montana that captures the modern West.
And now Getaway host Catriona Rowntree has found the best destinations Down Under that gives Australian fans the same experience.
A self-confessed superfan of the long-running series, Catriona has now shared a list of destinations that are essential for viewers wanting a taste of vast spaces, natural beauty and outdoor adventure.
‘Yellowstone has affected travel, it’s affected tourism, how we hopefully treat our land and give a little more respect to farmers over developers,’ she told Nine Entertainment on Wednesday.
If there’s one thing Yellowstone fans have fallen in love with, it’s the romance of ranch life.
And while it might not have Montana’s frosty peaks, Catriona said beautiful Waterloo Station offers the cosy charms of life on the land.

A self-confessed superfan of the long-running series, Catriona (pictured) recently shared a list of destinations that are essential for viewers wanting a taste of vast spaces, natural beauty and outdoor adventure
Situated in New England, NSW, and set amidst rolling hills, the 4000-acre, 100-year-old farm offers fans a weekend or extended stay.
Travellers have a choice of accommodation experiences that combine luxury with the best of country life.
Highlights include the gorgeous six-room Waterloo Homestead, where fans can enjoy tennis, croquet, fishing or just a quiet retreat in front of the fire.
For a taste of Yellowstone-style ‘western’ life Down Under, Catriona reckons fans should stop by Tamworth.
Known as the country music capital of Australia, the sprawling rural city in NSW is at the hub of a district known for its rustic beauty.
‘I also absolutely love the properties you can stay at there,’ Catriona said.
For those seeking a Yellowstone adventure in a classic Outback setting, the Getaway host recommends the Kings Street Station.
Located three hours north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, the vast property covers 2,200 square kilometres and offers ‘glamping’ – camping in luxury tents – buggy rides and helicopter tours of the beautiful region.
In Western Australia there’s a stunning farm stay on offer at Bullara Station. (Pictured)
Catriona also recommends the Carinya Station for a farm stay experience. Pictured: Couple enjoying a visit to the Lightning Ridge Bore Baths, Lightning Ridge
Montana’s Chief Joseph Ranch served as the location for Yellowstone’s vast Dutton Ranch and is a major tourist attraction. (Pictured)
Catriona’s other hot tip for a farm stay experience is the Carinya Station.
Situated near Lightning Ridge, a place known for its soaring summer temperatures and opal mines, Carinya is perfect for adventure seekers.
Closed in the warmer months, this family-run operation offers a perfect winter getaway. It features glamping, farm tours, and a stunning Outback experience.
In Western Australia, meanwhile, there’s another stunning farm stay on offer at Bullara Station.
Like Yellowstone’s fictional Dutton Ranch, this stunning vacation destination is a vast cattle property that allows visitors to experience life on the land firsthand.
Features include Burger nights, stargazing under WA’s famed dazzling night skies, and 4WD adventure rides to sandy Exmouth Gulf, which is just 90 km away.
Also in WA is the El Questro.
Another working cattle station, this 283279ha property is set in the world-famous Kimberley region, known for its unique and rugged beauty.

Fans can choose from four accommodation opportunities, including the stunning El Questro Homestead, a luxurious adults-only retreat set atop burnt orange cliffs.
Fans also have the choice of staying in tented cabins at Emma Gorge or The Station on the banks of the Pentecost River.
There’s also 30 private camping locations.
Yellowstone, though fictional, has plenty to say about the traditions of the American West, especially its ‘cowboys’ and their unique style.
And fans wanting to seek out the true history of the Aussie version, Catriona reckons a good place to check out is Queensland’s Longreach.
Situated smack in the middle of the vast north-eastern state, this tiny historic town is home to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre.
The centre celebrates the unsung men and women of the land who worked in Australia’s cattle and sheep industries.
Meanwhile, there’s plenty to do in the Longreach region, including Outback historic tours and river rides.
Montana’s Chief Joseph Ranch as it appears in Yellowstone
And Catriona says that if Yellowstone fans want to get a taste of genuine ‘western life’ there’s nothing like the real thing.
Montana’s Chief Joseph Ranch served as the location for Yellowstone’s vast Dutton Ranch.
Fans can check out the location used for the enormous Dutton family home – actually a 557sq metre lodge – as well as the familiar massive barns that regularly feature in the series.
Located in the tiny township of Darby, and surrounded by vast tracts of national forest, this family operated farm is an essential stop over for Yellowstone fans.
Meanwhile, Catriona, recommends another ‘western’ experience at Rock Creek Resort in Montana, a leafy mountain retreat.
She is also a fan of Colorado’s Dunton Hot Springs.
A former ghost town that has been restored as a luxury mountain retreat, this beautiful spot is close to the famed snow fields of Telluride.
All five seasons of the hit series Yellowstone are now streaming on Stan.
