Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Riyan Parag lauded the opposition Mumbai Indians (MI) after losing by 100 runs in their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.
Batting first, MI scored 217 for two. In reply, RR were all out for 117 in 16.1 overs. With the loss, RR’s playoff hopes came to an end.
MI rode on brisk half-centuries from Rohit Sharma (53 off 36 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) to post a formidable total.
Skipper Hardik Pandya (48 off 23 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (48 off 23) gave finishing touches to MI’s innings with their whirlwind knocks.
Riyan said 190 was an ideal score, but added the Mumbai Indians batters took the game away from RR at the end of their innings.
“We have to give credit to the way MI played. The way they batted, took the game a little deep, kept the 10 runs per over consistency and accelerated in the end. As far as our batting is concerned, it wasn’t our day. 190-200 would have been ideal (to chase), but then Hardik (Pandya) and Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) bhai at the end really switched it up, we could have done a few things better but it is how it is,” Riyan Parag said after the loss.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah (2/15) and Trent Boult (3/28) then rattled the RR batting before leg-spinner Karn Sharma (3/23) wrapped up a big win for the visitors.
Riyan Parag admitted the Rajasthan Royals’ middle order needed to step up, adding that they have done a lot of things right as well but lamented that a lot of things have gone wrong as well.
“We have been getting good starts, but it is up to the middle order – myself, Dhruv (Jurel), for us to step up when we lose wickets in the powerplay, but we still back ourselves, if another situation (like today) comes up then we will be up for it,” he addded.
When asked how the season has gone for RR in his assessment, Parag said: “We have done a lot of things right, lot of things wrong, we want to focus on the things we have done right, lot of mistakes, lot of small errors, focus on how to not make them and we have had a few close matches, if we get an opportunity like the first 10 games in the next three then hopefully we can do it better.”
