Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan Royals’ stand-in skipper, provided the game-changing moment by taking a brilliant diving catch to remove Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube during the Indian Premier League 2025 clash held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.

RR were under the pump as Dube, who came in as CSK’s impact substitute, was going after the spinners. But Wanindu Hasaranga tempted the southpaw to go after him one more time, which, thanks to Parag’s stunning take by the cover region, resulted in the big breakthrough.

After the catch, Parag was seen giving a rather uncharacteristic yet aggressive celebration.

Hasaranga picked up four wickets as the Sri Lankan spinner got rid of Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube Vijay Shankar and Ruturaj Gaikwad to put RR in front. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja looked to take the chase deep but their efforts proved to be futile as the Super Kings fell short by six runs at the end.

However, with 20 needed off the final over, Sandeep Sharma held his nerves to concede just 13 and dismissed Dhoni, courtesy of a stunning catch by Shimron Hetmyer, sealing RR’s win.

RR went on to set a target of 183 thanks to Nitish Rana’s brilliant knock in the first innings. After being asked to bat first, the Royals found themselves in trouble but Rana’s promotion to number three proved to be the difference as he scored 81 in 36 balls, which had 10 boundaries and five maximums.

However, CSK pulled things back in the final overs, with Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad, and Khaleel Ahmed taking two wickets each, limiting RR to 182/9.
