One of the footballers most criticized for the debated performance Real Madrid has shown during the current season is Rodrygo Goes.
A mixture of lacklustre performances from the Brazilian’s end, coupled with Ancelotti’s unwillingness to allow him to play in his preferred left wing position, has led to rising tensions and dissatisfaction in the locker room, with Rodrygo now eyeing a move away from the Bernabeu.
The Brazilian forward has been persistently linked with a move away from the Spanish capital in recent weeks after a frustrating campaign as the club’s fourth-choice forward behind Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham.
Lo and behold, it seems as if the Gunners are the first ones gunning to sign the Brazilian, with reports of Rodrygo ‘seriously considering’ a summer transfer arising.
As per reports from Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, talks have begun behind the scenes for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to acquire the services of the 24-year-old Brazilian.
Only once has the Real Madrid winger reached double-digit La Liga goals in a season, doing so in 2023/24, and he recorded 15 league goal contributions the campaign prior.
But his timely contributions have been notable, and his body of work at the Santiago Bernabeu so far leads one to believe that Rodrygo is yet to truly explore his superstar potential.
Although it could be viewed as an ambitious move for Arsenal to make in ‘the right direction’, the finances of such a deal would be mammoth and probably too much for the Gunners to take on.
Yet, if the Mikel Arteta-led side is keen on making the next big step to finally compete for and win major silverware (following a five-year drought), bringing in a dazzling, proven talent like Rodrygo would be the way to go.
But, one thing to note is that Arsenal aren’t alone in their pursuit. Manchester United have been credited with interest in Rodrygo, while Chelsea have also entered the conversation as a possible candidate.
At the end of the day, one could assume that Rodrygo won’t be offloaded until the club’s new manager, widely expected to be Xabi Alonso, has assessed his qualities.
