Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a hilarious reaction after he lost his 12th coin toss in the final of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand in Dubai, equalling a bizarre record held by Brian Lara.

Rohit won his last ODI toss in the semifinal of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai against New Zealand and, since then, hasn’t won even a single one.

Notably, this was the 15th consecutive toss that Rohit has lost across all formats of the game. As a result, the Indian skipper was left hapless after the toss in the final and looked at the funny side of it. Watch the video here:

Despite losing the toss for a record time, Rohit said that he had confidence in his team to go out and chase whatever target New Zealand put on the board.

“We’ve been here enough, batted first and bowled first, don’t mind batting second. It hasn’t changed much; we’ve chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of confidence and takes the toss away from the game,” Rohit said while speaking to former India head coach Ravi Shastri after the toss.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav produced a beauty first up to dismiss a dangerous Rachin Ravindra as India spinners reduced New Zealand to 172/5 after 40 overs.

Kuldeep then removed New Zealand’s main batter Kane Williamson with a flighted ball, which stopped on him, giving away an easy return catch.

Ravindra took on the Indian pacers, smacking four fours and a six to give his side momentum first up as Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya couldn’t contain the run flow.

The opening partnership of 57 between Ravindra and Will Young was the highest by any side against India in the Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, India were very poor on the field on the day as they kept dropping catches very often. Rohit dropped a hard opportunity off Daryl Mitchell when the latter was batting on 38.

A while later, Shubman Gill dropped Glenn Phillips for 27 off Ravindra Jadeja, but to his good luck, Phillips could score just seven more runs, as he was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy in the 38th over.

Jadeja finished his spell with figures of 10-0-30-1, dismissing Kiwi wicketkeeper Tom Latham.
