Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledged that his side need to address a multitude of issues after a harrowing season that is set to end trophyless as the Mancunian side stand 16th in the Premier League heading into the final week of the season. United are on track for their worst ever finish since the rebranding of the English top-flight and missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification following the Europa League final defeat to fellow strugglers Tottenham.

Amorim is tasked with saving a house on fire, and stated that he has an idea of the kind of unit he looks to build in order to restore the club to its previous glory.

“We have an idea of the type of squad we want but now we focus on the game because we still have the last game, and we have time to address all these situations,” the Portuguese boss said.

United are gearing up for a transfer window set to witness multiples move, both in and out of the club, as Amorim looks to overhaul the unit that has drastically underperformed.

“We are going to assess the squad. We know what to do, I will say it again, and we’ll deal with that when the season is finished,” he said.

Amorim, who took charge of the club midway through the season, saw the silver-lining in having managed the Red Devils for a couple of month as it has given him clarity over the direction he needs to work towards.

“These six months were really hard. We did so many changes inside our club that sometimes it takes a lot, like five years or three years to change all the personnel, and to change a lot of things,” the 40-year-old said.

“With all the mistakes that you guys can point to, I know how I want to play and now is the excitement, the moment we can change something,” the former Sporting Lisbon manager added.

“In this moment, I’m really glad I arrived six months before the start of a new season. I think we’re going to avoid a lot of the mistakes,” he continued.

“Now is the time we can use all that suffering to change things in the summer, not just the players. A lot of things need to change in our club,” Amorim concluded.
