Samsung is going to bring the Android XR headset to the next launch event in 2025 and we are eager to see how the Vision Pro rival works.
The new XR headset will run on Android and powered by Qualcomm
Apple Vision Pro is finally getting a strong challenger in the form of Samsung XR headset running on Android XR version. Samsung is going to announce the product at the next Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2025 where the Galaxy S25 series is likely to be unveiled.
The company has Google and Qualcomm on its side to deliver the software and hardware for the XR headset called Project Moohan, which means Infinity in Korean. Apple’s premium Vision Pro showed the purpose of the ecosystem but its price tag and limited availability has slowed down its demand.
Samsung Android XR Headset Details
Some people got a chance to try out the new Android XR headset and most felt that Samsung’s device is lighter and easier to wear compared to the Vision Pro. The Android platform feels like a fresh start for the device, with its UI reminiscent of the VisionOS which is not a bad thing by any means.
Google has tried its hands with these headsets previously as well, notably, the cardboard 3D headset ecosystem which didn’t work out as planned. But the new bet is bigger and more promising, as you have Android built into the device and allowing you to use it as a standalone product like the Vision Pro.
The biggest hurdle for Apple’s headset to succeed is the price and we are hoping that Google and Samsung can give us a more accessible product in the market. The platform will also benefit from Gemini AI via Galaxy AI features, something that Apple is yet to offer on its product.
Google also points out that Android XR is available for smart glasses which opens another interesting avenue for the platform and probably has enough in the tank to compete with products like the Meta Ray Ban glasses.
