Last Updated:

Samsung has delayed the Android 15 update release this year but if the older Galaxy models are now losing support for all the official updates from the brand.

Some of the older premium Samsung phones will not get any more updates.

Samsung finally started the Android 15 update roll out earlier this month with most users yet to get the One UI 7 version for their devices. However, the company is also closing up the upgrade cycle for some of its older Galaxy phones that have been around for many years and have received their promised set of updates.

The premium Galaxy S series phones were earlier offered 4 to 5 years of updates by the company, before it decided to make it 7 years for the recent Galaxy models. So, if you have been using a Samsung premium phone for that long, it might be time to upgrade.

Samsung One UI Update Stops For These Phones

Samsung Galaxy S20 series launched in 2020 are the first to lose Android updates from the company, as confirmed by the latest One UI 7 device update list. These are the phones included in the list:

  • Galaxy S20
  • Galaxy S20 Plus
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra

If you have any of these Samsung phones, the last Android update issued in March 2025 will be the final patch from the company. The Galaxy S20 FE does manage to live through for another few quarters but its own update cycle will end soon.

The Galaxy S20 series was promised to get 4 years of OS and security updates but Samsung went one step further by offering one more year’s support till 2025. But with the update cycle now done, people would surely be concerned if they should continue using their phones or buy a new phone.

To be fair, security updates are important for the phones to keep them safe from major risks. Having said that, you don’t need to immediately buy a new phone as long as the physical and running condition of the phone is fine.

Samsung One UI 7 Update Delay

The Android 15-based One UI 7 version was introduced with the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year, and after a long delay, the company is bringing the Android update for its older Galaxy devices.

Samsung claims that the One UI 7 update will bring a “bold new design for greater personalisation and control to the user experience”, many customers have expressed their frustration over its delayed release. The majority of the other smartphone brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, Sony and Motorola rolled out the Android 15 update in November last year.
