The State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced a new design for its FASTag, which promises to cut commuter travel time and correct any sort of toll fee discrepancies.

“The bank has introduced a new design for SBI FASTag in the Vehicle Class (VC-04) category. The advanced FASTag design enhances vehicle identification and toll collection efficiency aimed at reducing travel time for millions of commuters in India,” a press release dated August 30 reads.

What is SBI FASTag?

SBI FASTag is a gadget that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments straight from the prepaid or savings account associated with it. It is installed on the vehicle’s windscreen, allowing drivers to cross toll plazas without stopping for cash transactions. The tag can be acquired from tag issuers, and if tied to a prepaid account, it must be recharged or topped up as needed.

SBI has said that the new FASTag design is intended solely for Vehicle Class 4 (jeeps, cars, and vans). This revised design intends to improve vehicle recognition and speed the toll collection process, lowering commuter travel time. The new tag has been accessible since August 30. With proper recognition of these tags, toll staff can take instant action against the wrong class of vehicles.

SBI FASTag: How will commuters benefit from the new FASTag design?

Better vehicle identification: The improved design allows toll plaza operators to correctly recognise vehicles.

Toll payments are processed faster: The improved approach may result in faster toll payments and shorter commuter wait times.

Chargebacks are reduced: The new FASTag, by eliminating inaccurate toll charges, can help minimise chargeback instances while increasing revenue for both the government and toll concessionaires.

SBI FASTag: Who is eligible to use it?

The new FASTag design is meant exclusively for Vehicle Class 4 vehicles, which include cars, jeeps and vans.

SBI FASTag: The Bank also launched other products alongside the new FASTag.

SBI also launched the following products —

MTS RuPay NCMC Prepaid card: This card offers a streamlined, offline payment option for a variety of transit initiatives, including metro trains, buses, ferries, tolls, and parking.

OneView mobile application: With the use of this software, users can easily top up, track, and manage their SBI NCMC prepaid cards on an all-inclusive platform.
