The Supreme Court on Thursday heard its suo motu petition in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and noted that there were several loopholes in the initial probe conducted by the Kolkata Police. The top court observed that the medical facility’s former chief, Sandip Ghosh, had not taken proper steps in the case and asked who he was protecting.After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, told the Supreme Court on Thursday that they were handed the investigation on Day 5 and everything was “altered” by then, the top court questioned the state, the court heard responses from the state government, CBI, and agitating doctors.
