Selena Gomez’s planned pop-up event to celebrate the fifth anniversary of her album Rare has been postponed due to the ongoing California wildfires. Originally scheduled from January 10 to 12 in Los Angeles, the event was delayed as Selena’s team expressed their concern for the current crisis and emphasised prioritising the safety of everyone involved.

On Thursday, January 9, Selena posted the announcement on her Instagram Stories: “We are devastated to see the impact the wildfires continue to have on our community in Los Angeles. The safety and well-being of our team and community are top priorities, and with that in mind, we have decided to postpone Rare: The Pop-Up in partnership with Complex.” Selena Gomez’s team thanked fans for their understanding and assured them that they will announce the rescheduled dates for the Rare Anniversary pop-up event soon.

Along with the statement, the 32-year-old actor-singer also shared a series of links to mental health resources, evacuation shelters, animal support, and those on the front lines. In another Instagram Story, the Only Murders in the Building actress shared, “As a Los Angeles-based team, our hearts are with California as we face massive wildfires that have threatened communities, displaced families and destroyed homes.”

Released back in 2020, Selena’s third studio album went to the top of the music charts, even debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Inspired by her album, she even named her brand Rare Beauty after it.

In other news, in addition to Selena’s pop-up event, many other Hollywood events were cancelled or postponed due to the ravaging wildfires. These include the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, nominations for the 97th Academy Awards, BAFTA Tea Party, and WGA Awards nominations. Meanwhile, many film premieres, including A Better Man, Unstoppable and The Last Showgirl, have either been pushed to a later date or cancelled.

On the other hand, many renowned Hollywood celebrities, like Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Eugene Levy, Mark Hamill, James Wood, Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Cary Elwes, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison and Ricki Lake, are among the ones who lost their homes to the wildfires. Many celebrities evacuated their home in the wake of the fire, which claimed five lives, as per media reports, and forced thousands to flee.
