Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up two wickets against India in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday but conceded 74 runs in his quota of eight overs.

The Pakistan men’s cricket team suffered a humiliating defeat by six wickets against India in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played between the two teams in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side could only manage to post a total of 241 runs on the board after opting to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and then gave up too easily in the run chase. The world No. 1 ODI team rode on Virat Kohli’s 100 off 111 balls and chased down the target of 242 runs in 42.3 overs for the loss of only four wickets.
Pakistani fans had high hopes from the star pace trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah in the must-win match against India, but they failed to fire. While Shaheen was able to take two wickets in the match, he conceded 74 runs in his quota of eight overs, whereas Naseem and Rauf remained wicketless.

Thousands of Pakistani fans and former greats who travelled to Dubai to watch Pakistan take on India were left disappointed by the team’s performance, and in a video going viral on the internet from Sunday’s match, a Pakistani fan can be seen losing cool at Shaheen and asking him why they (Pakistani players) are humiliating Pakistanis around the world.
“Shaheen bhai… Shaheen, kitna zaleel karwaoge? Humara kya kasoor hai, Shaheen bhai? Hume bhi toh batao. Kya zulm kiya humne aap par, meri jaan batao hume,” the fan can be heard saying in a viral video.

Shaheen was the architect of Pakistan’s famous 10-wicket win over India in the 2021 T20 World Cup match played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24, 2021. In that match, the left-arm pacer dismissed Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli to restrict India to 151/7 in 20 overs. But since that match, Shaheen has failed to deliver against India.
He looked clueless in the match against India in the group stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup and also in the league stage match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which was played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14, 2023.
