Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has been reportedly banned from bowling in competitions organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board, with his action being deemed illegal after independent testing.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, Loughborough University, after conducting independent testing has found Shakib’s action after his one-off appearance for Surrey, earlier this year. After this game, the umpires reported Shakib’s bowling action.

For him to overturn the suspension, he would have to get his action reassessed by an independent party to ensure that his bowling is as per regulation which states that his elbow must be below the 15-degree threshold.

The report claims that his suspension is dated from December 10 when the ECB got the results from the university. It remains to be seen if Shakib will undergo the assessments to be cleared to participate in England once again.

His ban comes after his role as a Member of Parliament with the Awami League Party which has been overturned recently. As a result, he has not been able to play cricket in Bangladesh, including his farewell Test against South Africa.

During his one-off game against Somerset, he produced a fine performance, taking nine wickets in Taunton. That was also his first County game after his brief stint in the 2010-11 season where he played for Worcestershire.

Shakib scored 4609 runs and took 246 wickets in the 71 Tests he played in. In ODIs, he has also scored 7570 runs with 317 scalps to his name in addition to his 2551 runs and 149 wickets in 129 T20Is, making him one of the world’s most decorated all-rounders across all three formats.

His last international game was the second Test against India in Kanpur where he took four wickets across both innings. He was also part of the Abu Dhabi T10 league where he played for the Bangla Tigers who finished ninth in the table.

He has also played in franchise T20 leagues across the globe, something he continues to do so even today. But it remains to be seen whether he would overturn his ban to play cricket in England once again.
