Shocking footage has captured a terrifying encounter unfolding as an elephant attacks a jeep full of tourists.
Filmed at Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, the massive animal used its trunk to reach inside the vehicle, causing panic among the passengers.
The video shows the elephant almost toppling the car with its efforts.
The elephant even started to chase after the car until it realised the jeep was getting out of reach.
Among the stunned tourists was Sam Bailey, a project manager on the tour, who shared the video to TikTok where it captured a lot of attention.
In one comment on the video ‘Gamanu Mapatunage’ said the incident wasn’t caused by an ‘elephant attack’ but instead was the fault of a ‘careless jeep driver’.
However, Sam replied: ‘The jeep had stopped far away originally, over 10 minutes the elephant got closer before eventually attacking the jeep.
‘I only started filming when it started.’

It’s not the first time elephants have attacked jeeps in Sri Lanka. In 2023, three elephant attacks in Yala National Park were blamed on ‘illegal feeding’.
Elephants may attack the trucks looking for food if they become accustomed to receiving snacks from tourists.
Sri Lanka is estimated to be home to around 5,800 elephants and conflict between humans and the animals is thought to be on the rise.
According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, around 200 elephants are killed per year in human-animal conflict in Sri Lanka.
