Shubman Gill came out to bat at No. 3 for India on Thursday in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh, but he failed to open his account.

Star Indian batter Shubman Gill came out to bat at No. 3 for India on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, but he failed to open his account and was sent back to the pavilion for an eight-ball duck by Hasan Mahmud. The 25-year-old right-handed batter, who scored a century in his last Test for India against England in Dharamsala, was caught behind by Liton Das on the third ball of eight over.

After Gill failed to impress with his batting in the first inning, fans took to social media platforms to mercilessly troll him for his flop show, and some even went on to say that the youngster is Babar Azam of Indian cricket.

Gill, however, was not the only Indian who failed to impress with his batting on the opening day of the first India-Bangladesh Test in Chennai. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and batting superstar Virat Kohli also could only manage to score six runs each, whereas KL Rahul, who was preferred over Sarfaraz Khan in the playing XI, got out after making 16 runs from 52 balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who amassed a total of 712 runs in the last series against England, maintained his red-hot form in Test cricket and scored 56 runs from 118 balls whereas Rishabh Pant hammered 39 runs. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, who was playing his first Test since December 25, 2022, added 62 runs for the fourth wicket with Jaiswal after India lost three batters in the first hour.

After Pant, Jaiswal, and Rahul got out in the second session, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took the matter in their own hands and helped India cross the 300-run mark before the close of the day’s play by adding more than 150 runs for the seventh wicket.

During his stay at the crease, Ashwin, who top-scored for India on Day 1, also joined Jadeja in an elite list as he becomes only the second cricketer in the world to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in the World Test Championship.
